The Cosmetology Program prepares students for employment as licensed cosmetologists. The program has been offered through MTC for over 20 years. The Cosmetology program is a combination of theory and clinical experience that provides students with the knowledge base needed to pass the licensure exam and with the skills needed to achieve gainful employment in the industry. Students acquire hands-on skills training through MTC’s on-campus learning lab/salon, which is open to the general public for services.

The program includes instruction in all aspects of hair care, as well as facials and skin care, and manicure and pedicure nail care.

Overall employment of barbers, hairdressers, and cosmetologists is projected to grow 13 percent from 2012 to 2022. Demand for hair coloring, hair straightening, and other advanced hair treatments has risen in recent years, a trend that is expected to continue over the coming decade.*


In the state of Florida, Cosmetologists may earn between $17,440 and $45,700 per year.*


  • Standard career and technical program admission procedures apply. (See MTC catalog.)
  • Applicants are also required to complete a supplemental application packet which includes recommendations.
  • High school diploma—standard or GED is recommended.
  • Interviews will be scheduled as needed for selected applicants meeting criteria and deadline.


Upon completion of all program requirements, the student earns a Certificate of Completion in Cosmetology.


Program completers are eligible to take the state cosmetology examination to become licensed cosmetologists. CPR/First Aid Certification, and HIV/AIDS certificate.


Students acquire hands-on skills training through Marion Technical College’s on-campus learning lab/salon, which is open to the general public for services.  The Cosmetology salon is open Tuesday through Thursday for appointments.  Services include shampooing, conditioning, haircuts (no straight edging), curling, foil, facial waxing, manicure, pedicure and much more.  Click here to view the cosmetology salon services and price list.
